Fool on the hill
Quelle est la genèse de ce travail ?
Dans la chanson des Beatles, un homme se tient au sommet d’une colline pour regarder avec sagesse et recul la folie de ses semblables. C’est ainsi que nous avons eu l’idée de placer nos modèles sur une « colline d’objets ».
La référence à une autre colline emblématique, au fil de nos réflexions, nous a paru une évidence. C’est ainsi que la symbolique de la crucifixion s’est imposée à nous.
Notre époque a façonné un homme accumulateur, un être consommateur d’objets qui pratique de nouvelles croyances accompagnées de rituels. L’homme finit crucifié, victime consentante d’un rapport de subordination, de vénération à des choses qui illusoirement le flattent ou le réconfortent.
En apesanteur, entre consentement et soumission, l’homme subit le monde auquel il adhère.
Nous vous présentons ici une partie de la série, réflexion autour de l’accumulation d’objets de consommation « courante » et pourtant ni nécessaire à la vie, ni à l’épanouissement de l’être.
Il nous est apparu essentiel de garder espoir que l’humain de demain trouvera en lui la lucidité pour atteindre une sagesse au-delà du matériel.
How did this work come about?
In the Beatles song, a man stands at the top of a hill, looking back with wisdom at the madness of his fellow man. That’s how we came up with the idea of placing our models on a «hill of objects».
The reference to another emblematic hill, in the course of our reflections, seemed obvious. That’s how the symbolism of the crucifixion came about.
Our era has created a man who is an accumulator, a consumer of objects who practices new beliefs and rituals. Man ends up crucified, the willing victim of a relationship of subordination, of veneration for things that illusorily flatter or comfort him.
Weightless, between consent and submission, man suffers the world to which he adheres.
Here we present part of the series, a reflection on the accumulation of «everyday» consumer objects that are neither necessary to life nor to human fulfillment.
It seems essential to us to remain hopeful that tomorrow’s human being will find within himself the lucidity to attain a wisdom beyond the material.
